Liotru, a stone elephant of unknown origin, is the symbol of Catania. The elephant atop a pedestal reigns over Piazza Duomo in front of the cathedral. I wanted to get the locals to talk to me, so I asked about Liotru. All the men sitting on the steps under the elephant referred me to Giuseppe Lombardo, who showed up and explained everything. even if you don't understand Italian, it is fun to watch their gestures.
