Unknown immigrant woman dies of strain

A woman refugee who arrived in Palermo on a rescue ship Friday has died in hospital from stress of the voyage, according to a report in today's La Repubblica.
She arrived in grave condition: malnourished, stressed from the voyage through the desert, the long wait on the African coast and the sea crossing. Today, after three days in the hospital,, she died. No one knows her name or country of origin. Police are trying to learn her identity.
Imagine being an African woman, making it all alone all the way to Europe and dying there of trying.
And your family does not know if you are dead or alive, and no one can contact them because they do not know who you are.
Seas have been high, ferry service to Lampedusa and the out islands off Sicily has been cancelled, so no African immigrants in the past few days.
